Downtown Lot #3

The next house in the downtown series, downtown lot #3 is a 2 story house with 2 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms downstairs, and a great room upstairs. Upstairs has the kitchen and dining area, the living area and another bathroom. There is a small deck off the front of the house upstairs. This house features lots of windows making the house very bright and cozy. It is furnished with items for all  skills included. You will, of course, want to upgrade the furnishings with your custom content, as there is none included. There is a driveway outside and room for a garden or pool. On the “Downtown Series”

When play testing the downtown series, (which was done by 4 people) we had trouble with the Sims preferring to use the back doors over the front doors in some of the houses.  I noticed that I would have trouble with a specific lot, but when somebody else play tested that particular lot, they would not have the same problem.  I do not know what causes this confusion.  There is a theory that the Sims prefer the most expensive door, but that does not explain why one play tester would have the problem, yet the next one would not.

As a test, I moved one of the lots I was having this problem with to another location in my test ‘hood, and the silly Sims then used the front door as normal.  Go figure.  I have no clue what causes this problem.

However, in browsing through the Sims community in LJ, I ran across a possible solution.  If you use hacks, you might want to try Maty’s front door hack.  I have not yet tried it myself, but I do trust Maty’s hacks and will put it in my game soon.  Here is the link, they are in alpha-order so scroll down til you find it:
Front Door Hack.  (This is for the Apartment Life version of the hack.  For other versions, skim through here to find what you need.  Thanks to pne for pointing this out!)

If you don’t trust or use hacks and the sims using the back door is driving you crazy, try moving the lot to a different location in your ‘hood.  Even just a square over might make a difference.

Good luck, and please let me know how it works for you, whichever method you use to fix this annoying problem.

There are several more houses in the downtown series coming soon, so watch this space!

Downtown Lot #02

This is the second house in the Downtown Series.  Downtown Lot #02 is a two story, two bedroom, 3 bath house with a bonus room.  Downstairs it is an open plan with the kitchen, dining room and living room pretty much all one big room.  There is a full bathroom downstairs.  Upstairs the master bedroom has it’s own bathroom.  There is another bedroom, the bonus room and another full bathroom upstairs as well.  The bonus room has 2 things in it, but it can be set up for whatever your sims need.

There is not a lot of extra space in the house for pets or hobbies … aside from the bonus room, of course, but there is an extra corner here and there to squeeze in a needed item or two.

Outside there is a driveway, and some room on the lot for a garden, or a swing set, or for hobby items.  Not a lot of room for sure, but some.  This house is good for a family of 3 or 4, but it won’t hold a multi-generational crowd!  This house was play tested, and I did make some changes based on the suggestions of Phoenix, who play tested it for me.

Downtown Lot #01

The houses the come with the ingame downtown aren’t anything to write home about.  At least, not in my opinion, so I made some of my own for my neighborhood.  Thought I’d share them with you.  There are 6 houses in this series I’ll be sharing over the next month or so. I tried to keep them all under $40,000, with varying degrees of success.   They may not be anything to write home about either, but I think they are better than the ones that come with the game.  Of course, you should download them and judge for yourself!  :)

This is downtown lot #01, as you may have guessed from the subject line.  It is 2 stories with 3 bedrooms (they are not big bedrooms, but adequate), 3 bathrooms and 2 bonus rooms.  The bonus rooms are currently set up as a game room (with work out machine) and an office, but please feel free to change them as per your sims needs.  There is a sitting room upstairs.  There is a large upstairs balcony that is big enough for a hottub.  I had to remove the hottub and some other items because this house went WAAAAAAAAAAY over-budget.  Now it is just over-budget, LOL.  There are items on the lot to build all 7 skills, but it is lightly furnished. It does have burgler and fire alrams and a phone already present.

It has a very very small yard as it is built on a 2×2 lot befitting the downtown area, but it does have a driveway.  There is no landscaping done to help keep the move-in costs down, and to give your sims something to do on those days off when they can’t be earning money.  The entry way is large enough to add a few pet items, or you can remove the upstairs desk and/or couch for more pet items if you have a crazy cat lady.

You want to see pics, right?  Thought so….

Church

Here is the church I spoke about in my previous post. (It is built by request.)  In the end, I decided to leave out a podium. If you download the church and want to add a pulpit/podium, please feel free to do so. Of course, feel free to change it in any way your sims need. Just don’t call it yours, and don’t upload it elsewhere.

The church is a community lot built on a 3 x 5 lot. It needs all EPs through Free Time, but no stuff packs. I kinda like how it turned out.  It has a sanctuary, a fellowship hall with a full kitchen, a Sunday school area, a daycare, an office for the preacher and a storage room big enough to hold a wedding arch and casket, which are already in the storage room for you.  There is also a fenced in play area in the back for kids to play in.

It looks like this:

Church request

A request for a community lot Church came in a few days ago. I about have it finished. Aside from the main sanctuary, there is a large fellowship hall with a working kitchen, a Sunday school room, a nursery, the preacher has a nice office with a private bathroom, and there is a fenced in back yard for kids to play in.

What I’m having trouble with is what to use for a pulpit … a podium. Ideas? (No custom content of course, and I don’t have AL installed yet All other EPs, no stuff packs.) There is that one career reward, but I don’t know how to get it into the church. I’m building it now as a residential lot, but I”ll change it to a community lot when I’m done. I did it that way so I could get a wedding arch and a casket in there. (They are in the storage room beside the kitchen until needed. Church = weddings and funerals, I figured.)

What else might a church for sims need?

Thanks for your input!

Tradesmoore Dorm

That’s right boys and girls, here’s that dorm you’ve been asking for, finally!

Tradesmoore Dorm was built on a 4 x 3 lot, has 8 rooms, and needs all EPS through Free Time, but no stuff packs.  Almost all the bedrooms are big enough for a double bed.  It is fully furnished with 4 double rooms and 4 single rooms.  The furnishings are cheap and minimal to keep the bills down.  If you want to have two sims share a room, use the dormspecifictools cheat (boolprop dormspecifictoolsdisabled false to add a door, or to do other building; then boolprop dormspecifictoolsdisabled true to turn the cheat off when you’re finished.  Don’t leave this cheat on.)  to add a second door to the room you want to share.  The cafeteria is a generous size, and has room to add a second (regular) stove if you have a college sim who would rather cook that eat what the Chef has to offer.  (How many times can you eat burned mac and cheese in 4 years?)  There are plenty of doors in and out of the dorm to allow for good traffic flow.  Bills are reasonable too!

The dorm was play tested by Isaiah Gavigan and his high school sweetheart Tina.  They were so happy in the dorm, they had a secret wedding in their sophomore year. Shhh… don’t tell Tina’s dad, it’s still a secret.  (Let’s hope he doesn’t read this blog!)

Now, this is important.  Are you paying attention?  This doesn’t happen often.

I DID NOT FORGET ANY LIGHTS!  That’s right folks, they were all there.  First time for every thing!!

What did the Gavigans think of the dorm?

They liked it!
